U.S. Manufacturing Production (MoM)
Published:
U.S. manufacturing output (Federal Reserve G.17) — monthly change
Full explanation
U.S. Manufacturing Production (MoM) is the monthly percentage change in the manufacturing component of the Federal Reserve's industrial production index (seasonally adjusted, 2017=100). It covers manufacturing only, not total industrial production (which adds mining and utilities), and is not a manufacturing PMI or regional Fed survey.
Why traders watch it
Manufacturing is the bulk of U.S. industrial output, so this is a core read on factory activity.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
A stronger-than-expected reading points to firmer activity; a weaker one points the other way.
