Full explanation

UK M4 Money Supply MoM is the monthly percentage change in the UK's broad money M4, published by the Bank of England in its Money and Credit release. The headline measure excludes intermediate other financial corporations (M4ex) and is seasonally adjusted. M4 is the UK's main broad money measure; it is not the same as the Bank's separate estimate of a euro-area-style M3 for the UK.

Why traders watch it

Broad money growth reflects deposits held by households and businesses and helps gauge spending power.

Stronger vs weaker outcomes

Faster growth than expected points to looser monetary and credit conditions and can support expectations of firmer activity or inflation; slower growth points the other way.

Stronger than expected

A higher reading means UK broad money rose faster than in the previous month.

Weaker than expected

A lower reading means it rose more slowly or fell.

In line with expectations

Higher means faster; lower means slower.
