Full explanation

Singapore MAS Core Inflation (YoY) is the annual percentage change in the Monetary Authority of Singapore's core inflation measure, which is the Consumer Price Index excluding accommodation and private transport. It is published monthly in a joint MAS and Ministry of Trade and Industry release based on Department of Statistics CPI data. It is a core measure and differs from headline (all-items) CPI.

Why traders watch it

MAS sets policy through the Singapore dollar exchange rate, and core inflation is central to its assessment, so surprises can move the Singapore dollar.

Stronger vs weaker outcomes

A higher-than-expected reading points to firmer underlying inflation and can raise expectations of a tighter MAS exchange-rate stance; a lower reading points the other way.

Stronger than expected

A higher reading means underlying Singapore inflation rose faster.

Weaker than expected

A lower reading means it rose more slowly.

In line with expectations

Higher means firmer core inflation; lower means softer.
