Full explanation

Ireland CPI (YoY) is the percentage change in Ireland's national Consumer Price Index compared with the same month a year earlier, published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) in its mid-month release. It is not seasonally adjusted. It is Ireland's national CPI, not the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP); the national CPI includes items such as mortgage interest that the HICP excludes, so the two can differ.

Why traders watch it

The national CPI is Ireland's headline domestic inflation measure, used in wage discussions and indexation.

Stronger vs weaker outcomes

A higher-than-expected reading points to stronger price pressure and can lift expectations of tighter monetary policy; a lower reading points the other way.

Stronger than expected

A higher reading means Irish consumer prices rose faster.

Weaker than expected

A lower reading means they rose more slowly.

In line with expectations

Higher means faster Irish inflation; lower means slower.
