Brazil General Market Price Index (IGP-M) — monthly change
Full explanation
IGP-M (MoM) is the monthly percentage change in the General Market Price Index (Índice Geral de Preços – Mercado) from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV IBRE). It combines producer prices (60%), consumer prices (30%) and construction costs (10%), collected from the 21st of the previous month to the 20th of the reference month. It is widely used to index rents and contracts.
Why traders watch it
A broad, early read on Brazilian price pressure, heavily influenced by commodity and wholesale prices.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
A higher-than-expected reading points to stronger price pressure; a lower reading points the other way.
