Gross National Product (GNP) QoQ
Published:
A quarter-on-quarter measure of the total output produced by a country's residents and businesses, including income earned overseas.
Full explanation
Gross National Product (GNP) measures the total value of goods and services produced by a country's residents and businesses, including income earned from overseas activities. QoQ shows the percentage change compared with the previous quarter.
Why traders watch it
GNP provides an indication of changes in economic activity and national income. Stronger-than-expected growth can support a currency if it increases expectations for tighter monetary policy, while weaker growth may weigh on the currency.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
Compare the release with the market expectation rather than with zero. GNP is a distinct measure from GDP because it includes net income earned abroad, so the two can diverge for economies with large overseas income flows.
Typical volatility
medium.
