Full explanation

Euro Area M3 Money Supply YoY is the annual growth rate of the euro area's broad monetary aggregate M3, published monthly by the European Central Bank (ECB) in its Monetary developments in the euro area release. M3 comprises currency in circulation, overnight deposits, short-term deposits and marketable instruments such as money market fund shares. The headline growth rate is seasonally adjusted.

Why traders watch it

M3 growth is part of the ECB's monetary analysis and indicates liquidity and credit conditions across the euro area.

Stronger vs weaker outcomes

Faster growth than expected points to looser monetary and credit conditions and can support expectations of firmer activity or inflation; slower growth points the other way.

Stronger than expected

A higher reading means euro-area broad money grew faster over the past year.

Weaker than expected

A lower reading means it grew more slowly.

In line with expectations

Higher means faster; lower means slower.
