Full explanation
Euro Area M3 Money Supply is the outstanding amount (stock) of the euro area's broad monetary aggregate M3, published monthly by the European Central Bank (ECB), in euro billion. M3 comprises currency in circulation, overnight deposits, short-term deposits and marketable instruments such as money market fund shares. It is an amount, not a growth rate.
Why traders watch it
The level of M3 shows the size of euro-area broad money; most attention goes to its growth rate, published alongside.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
Usually read for trend; the annual growth rate is the market-relevant figure.
A higher amount than the previous month means the money stock rose.
A lower amount means it fell.
Higher means faster; lower means slower.
