Italian Treasury 3-year BTP auction — gross yield
Full explanation
The Italy 3-Year BTP Auction is the Italian Treasury's sale of BTPs (Buoni del Tesoro Poliannuali), fixed-rate government bonds paying semi-annual coupons, with about three years to maturity. Successive auctions are often reopenings and can involve different specific bonds. The calendar figure is the auction gross yield, in percent. It is not a CTZ (zero-coupon note) and not BTP Italia, BTP€i or any other inflation-linked bond.
Why traders watch it
Shows the cost of short- to medium-term Italian borrowing and is watched for changes in Italian credit risk and ECB rate expectations.
Stronger vs weaker outcomes
A higher gross yield than the previous auction means Italy paid more to borrow; a lower one means cheaper funding.
Typical volatility
Low. Different auctions can be different bonds, so compare like with like. Results are published by the Bank of Italy for the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
